High School Rules Overview
Our High School Division follows the fundamentals of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Flag Football Rules while incorporating the Brooksville Under the Lights Drive Format for league play. Players are encouraged to learn the official high school rules to prepare for varsity competition and the next level.
Game Basics
7 vs. 7
Four downs to reach the zone-to-gain (first down)
Four 12-minute quarters (clock management may vary by event)
Six-point touchdowns
PAT opportunities after every touchdown
Overtime procedures used when necessary
Non-contact football with legal flag pulls replacing tackles
Good sportsmanship and player safety are emphasized at all times.
Offensive Rules
All eligible receivers may catch a forward pass.
One forward pass is permitted per play.
The quarterback may run unless restricted by league rules.
Teams receive four downs to advance into the next zone-to-gain.
Ball carriers are down when a legal flag is removed.
Defensive Rules
No tackling or unnecessary contact.
Defenders may rush according to league and NFHS rules.
Interceptions may be returned.
Defensive holding, illegal contact, and pass interference are enforced.
Unsportsmanlike conduct results in penalties and possible ejection.
